Rewatching Doctor Who: The Girl in the Fireplace

Just realised that I didn't blog about rewatching this the other week, 20 years after original broadcast. I haven't got much to say, except that I think it's one of the very best episodes ever, and it totally holds up on rewatch. It was my late Dad's favourite Doctor Who story, and he'd been watching since 1978. It's a little self knowing in places, but that's very Steven Moffat. But it's so very good. And I think it would be a good introductory episode for a new watcher, to see if they might like the programme.

Having just watched Good Omens The Finale, I can see shades of his Crowley characterisation in Girl in the Fireplace, I think.

We've still to watch that. I've not really got enough awake/alert time at the moment, and I'm honestly not feeling very enthused, given stuff. I may end up recommending Martin watch it on his own. But it is waiting.

$OFFSPRING really liked season 1, and liked season 2 but not as much, so we wanted to watch this. We were glad it got a finale and it mostly works, but I can see the compression from the original concept. I think you could easily watch it over a couple of sessions and not lose the threads. But, you're not missing that much if you skip it while suffering a flare.
