Doctor Who: Wish World

Afraid that this is by far my least favourite episode of the season so far. I liked the core premise, of an alternative world (and no, I haven't seen Wandavision), really liked the opening historical scene in Bavaria, and loved the two Ranis together. Oh and the UNIT bits were fun. But otherwise it felt like something with too many ideas thrown into the blender, and many of them largely under developed.
Ruby's role in particular seemed really under done, though Millie was acting her socks off as usual. It just felt unsatisfying. And I also found Conrad's role curiously not great, though I liked the meta storytelling of the book he was reading from (which was disturbingly Harry Potter esque).
I think introducing Omega at this point is problematic, unless they're going to be really in your face about it. I've seen him before, both in the 1980s with Peter Davison, and later going back and watching The Three Doctors. But even I can barely remember anything about him. As introduced here he doesn't have the immediate impact that the Rani had last week (and two of them to boot!), and I'm far from convinced it's a good idea.
It also felt like an episode that was making a big thing of visual effects and CGI (hey, Disney money!), but at the expense of storytelling, balance and pacing.
On plus we've still got next week to come. Last year I really enjoyed the penultimate episode but greatly disliked the finale. Maybe it will be the other way around this year? Here's hoping anyway.
