Bambi take 2

Spotted again on one of Martin's Saturday walks. Seen about 500 metres from our home, as he was making his way towards the wooded river valley where he goes birdwatching. There is a thriving wild deer population locally where we live. This photo was taken looking over to the north side of the A92 main road. The deer often cross this road, sometimes coming down as far as the Firth of Tay.

The deer looks as if she's really enjoying herself, though I'm not sure if she's eating or scratching.

Is she a red deer?

I think she was eating. It's roe deer round here, which are a little reddish funnily enough, but not as big as red deer. Martin hasn't seen deer here very often, but has a Flickr album of his deer photos. Including some gorgeous ones further down by the burn where he walks each week.

The photo of the roe deer startled and looking towards the camera is amazing. (Note to self -- work on roe/red deer identification. I think I'd mentally imagined roe deer as being much smaller than they actually are.)
