vivdunstan: The 15th Doc swirling round on the dance floor in his kilt (fifteenth doctor)

Just watched this in the middle of the night. And jotting down quick thoughts. Which are phenomenally spoilery, so putting in a spoiler cut.

Overall I found it disappointing after last week, and it felt like RTD didn't "stick the landing". Again. There were some nice things. I liked how destructive Sutekh was, and how many people were wiped out, including Kate. I liked the Remembered TARDIS, which was delightfully ad hoc. And I also liked Sutekh being dragged through the Time Vortex, bringing people and planets and solar systems back to life.

However although we got a resolution for Ruby Sunday's parentage it felt unsatisfying for me. As she said her mother was very "ordinary", which like she said too feels like a bad thing to say. But isn't wholly unreasonable given the build up before, including in front of Sutekh. And we didn't even see her father. I’d have honestly been happier if she'd been the child of the mysterious woman on the other planet we saw.

The TARDIS perception filter and 73 yards was brought up, which left me wondering if future Ruby was somehow from a TARDIS perception filter. But that wasn't followed up. It felt like a hanging thread.

No resolution for the Susan story, which I guess is an ongoing plot point. Can they please resolve it while Carole Ann Ford is still alive and able to participate in some capacity? I was pleased that the modern day version of Susan Twist got to live though, and help UNIT.

And Mrs Flood. On the one hand I'm exasperated not knowing more. But her final appearance was more bonkers and intriguing. She is a fantastic, enigmatic character. I look forward to seeing more of her.

So farewell, at least for now, to Ruby Sunday. I could say more about casting issues next series, but won’t. However Millie Gibson has been absolutely brilliant. And Doctor Who was really lucky to get her. She celebrated her 20th birthday the other day. An acting superstar.
