Post Covid tastes

One thing I've still got since Covid in late Sep / early Oct is fluctuating tastes. Things can sometimes be a bit bland, or equally too spicy. I'm rather craving strong tasting foods, but that can backfire sometimes! But at least the sweet taste is back. And Irn Bru tastes proper. That was a Scottish existential crisis 😜

Haha! I've been drinking it since I was very young. At least I have sugar free version now. But yup, I'm totally fitting a national stereotype :)

Sadly, I've been going off cream teas (clearly my national stereotype). So few places bake a decent scone any more - though there are some honourable exceptions.

My Somerset husband has a Cornish dad, but unlike Scottish me eats his scones the Devon way. We once had an entertaining chat with a Stockholm taxi driver about the scone question. Though to be fair his mind was probably already blown after seeing my husband sporting a kilt, in Cornish tartan! We'd just been to his brother's wedding. The brothers and their dad were asked to wear Cornish kilts by the Swedish bride :)

I don't care if cream or jam is on top - it just has to be a really good scone. There's a little cafe on the Kennet and Avon canal that has every other place beat. I don't know how they cook them, but they're fluffy and delicious!

Yum! As an easy option I rather like the cherry scones from our local Sainsburys. Though they have to be served with Roddas clotted cream and morello cherry preserve. Craving them now!

Glad it's recovering somewhat. It was very unpleasant to me when everything tasted of nothing.

I was really lucky I didn't get to the nothing taste stage. But everything tasting off was disturbing enough - a constant shock when eating.
