Book 8 of 2022

Just finished the second book in the Wheel of Time series, The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan. This was a 4-star read. Classic fantasy, albeit one that is going to take many more books (a dozen or so) to reach the conclusion. I like how each book so far has fitted into that, and is gradually uncovering the world. There is also a storytelling technique used sporadically that I like hugely. It does feel as though the pace is picking up now though I know some later books will be very much filler. I am glad I’m reading this rather than watching the condensed TV version. I’m not well enough to watch much TV or films now, but can still read. I won’t be going on to book 3 immediately, but will probably start in the next few months.

I've never got around to this. I was waiting for it to be finished, though I am watching the TV version. Having seen many, many discussions online about it though, I would advise making sure that you don't leave it too long and forget characters and plotlines, because there are so many and it can apparently get confusing if you leave it too long between books. Even people with good memories who don't usually re-read were saying they had to re-read to date if they were following as they came out.

Thanks. Yes I was thinking of allowing no more than a couple of months gap each time. It does feel like something I need to keep the momentum going with. All the books are in print now, so it’s just a question of reading them, assuming I don’t bail out part way through! I used to stare longingly at these books in Broughty Ferry library in the early 2000s, but even by then I could only read non large print library books with great difficulty. Oh and I have the accompanying reference book on the way. I wanted the retro old style cover, so a rather battered paperback is on the way from Australia. Well read is fine for me though.
