vivdunstanOnto the last story in the 8th season of Benny audios from Big Finish. Going to discuss this with big spoilers for this story and the previous but one story as well.
This story picks up on the after-events of Jason's murder by Peter, as Benny tries to come to terms with her grief, and navigate her new situation, and how to protect her son. Who she does not believe was responsible for the murder that he carried out.
Ultimately the story is about Benny and Brax's relationship, recounting through various flashbacks their previous encounters, from the very start, through to now, where she realises even more than before just how manipulative Brax has been, and just how much danger she and Peter are in.
This story includes an attempted rape by Doggles, who has been odious to listen to for a long time, but excels himself here. Though partially at least manipulated into this action by Brax, who turns up at the key moment to save Benny. She is not fooled, and sees right through his pulling the strings. Recent scenes with Benny and Brax have been riveting, and this is no exception, with superb acting yet again. But, to be fair, there is strong acting throughout from all the cast.
In the end Benny and Peter leave the Collection. And it's a stirring and inspiring ending, as they set out into the stars, looking ahead to a new future. Things will never be the same again.
A fitting ending to one story, as a new one begins. And a very strong piece of scifi writing.
