Onto another story, and going to discuss this
I didn't remember much of this story from previous rereads, though I remembered the title. It's the tale of a mysterious death, and the reappearance of a figure from the past, who has a very distinctive appearance.

Plus an extremely unusual companion, his pet mongoose Teddy.
Again there is the sense of the exotic overseas, India this time. In many respects the story is highly reminiscent of The Sign of the Four. But it also reminded me of "The Noble Bachelor" short story, with the surprise return of a lost love from the past.
Ultimately it boils down to an accidental death prompted by shock at seeing an unexpected figure. Though a missing key and locked room adds a little interest. Overall a very slight tale though.
