Doctor Who: Rogue

Jotting down quick thoughts in the middle of the night about the latest episode. Which I greatly enjoyed, as did Martin. He has had very mixed views for a lot of the episodes up till now, including 73 Yards which was my favourite. So often he's felt disappointed by the endings, but thought this one "stuck the landing". I'm not a Regency costume drama or romance drama fan, but I've seen enough Jane Austen dramas in my youth especially to recognise lots of the tropes. This was nicely done. But with an added touch of humour, that I greatly appreciated. There were lots of points when I laughed out loud, including the decloaked space ship in the garden, the vicar emerging from hiding behind someone else, and the marvellous bird heads of the "family". Actually on the family front it felt very reminiscent of Human Nature / Family of Blood, in both family and cloaked space ship among other things. Martin was also reminded of The Girl in the Fireplace. Rogue is a great character, very well done, even if rather underplayed. Though his romance with the Doctor was perhaps a bit too whirlwind for credibility. Albeit paired with a tragic ending. I do hope we see him come back in future. Having the Doctor cry again in yet another episode was definitely a bit much. And the recurring actress was a static portrait this time, though maybe one whose eyes move. Oh and the music. The music! Which I gather is a Bridgerton thing too. Delights here such as pop songs from Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga, and one of my favourite pieces to play on the accordion, Libertango by Astor Piazzolla. None of which are 1813 appropriate, but I just did not care, and was enchanted. And the next time trailer. Oooooooh! Very keen to see that. What on earth is going on with portrait etc lady. I think it's going to be another midnight/1AM watch for us.
