Current listening: The Diary of River Song series 9

More of my Big Finish backlog, now diving into this boxset, which teams up River Song with the 3rd Doctor, Liz Shaw and the Brigadier. I really enjoyed the 3rd Doctor audio I heard recently with Liz and the Brigadier, so happy to dive into this with the addition of River. It’s very tongue in cheek.

I'm not sure of this concept of River with Doctors before Ten. Ten did NOT know River at all in "Silence in the Library".

Big Finish are generally handling it with either mind wipes / forgetfulness, or the Doctor not learning River's name, especially if encountering her at a remote distance or over comms. There was a variant approach taken with the Fourth Doctor, which worked really well, and I won't go into for spoiler reasons. But was wonderful to hear.

I tend to avoid audiobooks because they can be so expensive - but this does sound enormous fun!

It is great fun. Sadly though Big Finish audios are very expensive. I counteract the cost a bit by buying the CDs with included download version, listen to the download, then when I’m sure I don’t want to listen again in future I sell on the CD. That recoups a lot of the purchase value. Download only costs from Big Finish are generally scary. Though they have a lot of early 2 hour Doctor Who full cast audios for £2.99 or less.
