Current listening: Doctor Who, The Box of Terrors

A new audio novel release from Big Finish, released on the programme’s 60th anniversary. And at nearly 9 hours long this is going to take quite some time. It is split into episodes though, which helps. The opening part has already felt almost Douglas Adams esque, with a scene very reminiscent of Hitchhiker’s robot Colin. Jon Culshaw is great at the voices of the Doctors, but not so good at Sarah Jane Smith.

'Hitchhiker’s robot Colin'

Do you mean Marvin?

No I definitely mean Colin. Who appears in Mostly Harmless (Hitchhikers book 5). He’s my second favourite Hitchhikers robot, after Marvin.

I think I skimmed that one really quickly.

I love the original two radio series, but the books never worked as well for me. Adams was a better script writer than novelist. Colfer caught his style very well, which is why I didn't like his book either!

I hugely disliked the Colfer book. But I love the Adams ones. Though book 5 ends far too bleakly.
