The Devil's Hour end of season thoughts

Watched the final episode tonight. What I'm about to write is very spoiler full, so putting in a cut section.
Peter Capaldi was utterly spellbinding in that final episode. Bravo. But also kudos to Jessica Raine throughout. And I've been impressed with the rest of the cast too, many of whom aren't high profile actors.
Given that it has been renewed for two more seasons I'm really curious to see what they do next. I have seen some peeks of filming pictures already, which show some of the characters returning. But yes, intrigued.
I wonder if it will get incredibly dystopian/futuristic, and show cancer-stricken Lucy in series 2 or 3.
Presumably Gideon is wrong about some things, e.g. he was wrong about Isaac at least in part.
Isaac's dad being abusive was disturbing, but did fit the plot.
I did think the series could have easily lost an episode or two. It dragged mid way, but was most effective at the start and end.
Martin hadn't known it was renewed. He's relieved, because he felt somewhat short changed with it as it ended. But if you view it as the first chapter in a longer story that's better.
