vivdunstan: Some of my Doctor Who etc books (doctor who)

On to another early Matt Smith story, and the Winston Churchill one. Which I didn't enjoy the first time around. This time I thought it was better than I remembered, though still poor. Martin on rewatching thought it was much worse than he remembered! Though that may be his memory gaps.

As another intro to Amy and the Doctor it's fine. I also liked seeing the angry Doctor. But the story itself is plodding. Emotional depths like the female operative's story are not adequately explored. Bill Paterson's acting ability was underused. And there is far too much Dalek posturing, and the new Daleks look like brightly coloured plastic toys. I'm also weary after all these years of hearing Nick Briggs's Dalek voices at length. Mark Gatiss as the spitfire pilot also stuck out voice wise.

So yup, not as bad as I remembered, but not great. Honestly poor.

But hey the next one is a stone cold classic.
