Happy 30th birthday Babylon 5

Today is 30 years since the original airing in the US of The Gathering TV movie. I can’t remember when it aired first in the UK. We tended to be behind though. And the series itself was a year or so later. I got hooked quicker than Martin. He was away for much of the first season doing a conversion degree in Edinburgh, staying for some of each week there. But we were both hooked by the end of season 1. And loved the rest. We’ve rewatched it fully several times since. We are due another rewatch I think, and have the remastered digital versions. It’s funny I’m such a big fan. Despite adoring Doctor Who and enjoying Star Trek and Blake’s 7 I am not a natural fan of space set scifi. Me and scifi have a bit of a difficult relationship. I much prefer fantasy. But I really like good storytelling. And Babylon 5 is as much about storytelling and characters as it is a space show.
