Finished my 66th book of the year, with my reread of Jenny Nimmo’s The Snow Spider. A charming book, very much in the vein of other classic children’s books like The Dark is Rising, The Box of Delights, and The Weirdstone of Brisingamen. Also very appropriate for the season. I wanted a wintry children’s book to read, and was already rewatching The Box of Delights TV version (as every year!) and a new radio version of The Dark is Rising will be coming at Christmas time. So I opted for The Snow Spider instead, and it was a lovely choice.
A friend mentioned that CBBC made a new version of this a year or two ago. There’s a trailer on iTunes and it’s available to buy digitally from there and Prime Video. Though I’d rather probably see the 1988 version again that I saw long, long ago, including Siân Phillips in the cast.
