Oracle cards

Inspired by a recent read I've picked up M.J. Cullinane's "Urban Crow" oracle deck - I love the artwork, and the theming. And also the "Seasons of the Witch" Mabon oracle deck - the one of that series that appealed to me the most. I have never tried Oracle cards, but have been starting to work with Tarot cards for personal reflection and creativity. And the various Oracle cards look like a nice variant on that. And also, frankly, probably easier to make sense of, without knowing/learning a mass of deep meanings behind each Tarot card!

Tarot can be done even with a pretty basic set of meanings - as long as the deck is a descendent of the Ryder Waite deck (which many are). you just have to avoid the excessively 'spiritual' interpretations which can be too mushy to get any concrete ideas from. ( or at least in my case)

Like you, I don't see them as genuine predictors of the future, but they can be great for examining aspects of a problem and ways of approaching it.

Oh absolutely. But it's knowing what each card means - even simply - that can be more of an effort. I know nothing already. I need to look everything up. Eg if I pull a card - say "King of Swords" - I don't know instinctively what that means. And looking up every time is a fankle. Oracle cards can be similarly opaque and enigmatic, but the ones I've got to try so far are really obvious what they mean from often a single word.

I agree it takes time to memorise the meanings, though I never hesitated to use a reference book (or just the notes that came with the deck). But I agree that it works better with memory and understanding.

From memory: Swords are the symbol of intellect and also of the air.

the King of Swords would suggest a powerful man who has a keen understanding and breadth of knowledge. It could also imply someone in aviation or any industry connected with air transport, or anyone who makes fast decisions.
Depending on his position in the layout, he could represent the person the reading is for (either gender) or someone who may (or has, again depending on the position) had an influence on the situation.

I haven't read the cards for several years now, but it seems some of it has stuck!

Well remembered! I find the meanings fascinating, but with my memory problems from my brain damage I don't remember them. So much repeated looking up. I'm not giving up on it, but at the moment the oracle cards are proving a more approachable option.
