Doctor Who: The Church on Ruby Road
Just going to post some quick thoughts, but putting them in spoiler space.
I liked a lot about it. Huge nods to film Labyrinth of course, though I was rather wearied by so much crawling around the goblin ship. And the knots stuff was a bit handy wavy, though I liked the fantasy elements. Best of all though Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson were brilliant in their roles. I haven’t seen Millie on Coronation Street, but for her age she is an extremely good actress. And Ncuti was fab as expected. Loved the twirling in a kilt. Martin had seen a filming picture of “someone in a kilt” not long ago, but (1) didn’t know it was the Doctor, and (2) promptly forgot! I wonder what the tartan is. It’s a lovely nod to his Scottish background as well as his bold personal dress choices. I also really liked the character of Ruby’s Mum and loved the found family elements. Plus there’s the mystery of Ruby’s birth and mother, and Mrs Flood, who knows about TARDISes. But yup, good stuff. Rating 8/10.
