Current watching

Thought I'd do a quick recap on the main things I've been/am watching recently. These are in addition to things we record on the Sky Q box and watch together. Watching anything at all is tricky for me given how heavily asleep I am for most of the time, including often at night between dinner and supper, assuming I can resurface for supper. But here are some of the main things I'm squeezing in.

• Finishing Wednesday season 1, ready for watching season 2 later this year. I binge watched the last few episodes, which is extremely unusual for me.
• Rewatching Daredevil from the very start, ready (though I may be lagging a bit behind!) for what looks like pretty much a continuation coming later this year on Disney+.
• Watching plays on National Theatre at Home. So far I've got through London Tide (a version of Our Mutual Friend), Prima Facie (the Jodie Comer version), and am now onto Noel Coward's Present Laughter starring Andrew Scott. I have *so* many more on my watch list to hopefully get through with my year's subscription. It takes me a lot of watches to get through a single play.
• Watching recorded talk videos from Treadwells occult bookshop in London. So far I've learned about subjects such as Greek folk tales about goblins at Christmas, and an overview of the history of grimoires. Lots more lined up to watch soon.
• Enjoying some of my favourite YouTube channels, such as writer Christy Anne Jones and a Swiss family of Norwegian Forest cats.

The upcoming Daredevil show is not a direct continuation of the Netflix version. Yes, it features the same actors but it's generally accepted that the Netflix version of the MCU is one of the multiverse parallels, so while they'll use the same actors, they won't feel beholden to the detailed continuity.

That's different from the general picture I've got from reading online. Including one of the actors just last month saying "So there's kind of like this funny thing stepping back after five years where Born Again will pick up with that amount of time having transpired. The show doesn't pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later" (https://gamerant.com/daredevil-born-again-star-reboot-timeline/)

I'm definitely not expecting a show that's slavishly picking up on old continuity. But from what I've read recently - and they did change their plans quite considerably during production - I'm expecting more of a continuation than not.

It's very doubtful I'll get through all the episodes rewatched before then though, so this may all be academical! So far I've just managed 1 and a bit episodes ;)

They may have decided to stick closer to the continuity as they developed the show. I was working off the original announcement when they said they'd be doing it.

They changed plans totally after shooting a few episodes and deciding that wasn’t the right approach. Which is a very unusual thing to have done! But they decided it was necessary.

Interesting. I hadn't heard about that. Now I'm looking forward to this even more. However, I'm less sure about whether $DAUGHTER should watch it. We've watched almost all of the non-Netflix Marvel TV shows (including Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter) except that we gave up with Echo. If it's much closer in tone to the netflix show it may be too violent for her still. At some point I'll see if she's interested in the Netflix shows though I suspect Punisher would need to be even later than the others. Of course some of the anime she watches can be very violent, but that's (literally) cartoon violence. Maybe I'll have to watch it on my own first and see what I think, and discuss it with her.

The trailer for the new version is incredibly violent. Looks like they haven’t toned down that aspect at all.

Definitely! The trailer has taken a lot of fans - including me - by surprise at how extremely violent it is. Many of us were expecting something toned down.
