Hoolie in the Hydro recordings on BBC ALBA (and iPlayer)

Our current viewing. Hoolie in the Hydro, recorded live in Glasgow just the other night. Fab traditional Scottish music line up, including Capercaillie, Mànran and Talisk among others. I think BBC ALBA are airing it in two parts, last night and then the rest between Christmas and the New Year. Here is the link to part 1.

The music's great, but I think I'm a bit of an oddity. I'd rather listen to a group of mostly amateur/social musicians in a pub, then a great professional group on a stage with lighting/amps/etc.

Same with songs. If it wasn't on a members only Facebook page, I'd send you a link the pub singaround session that ended with me joining the Norfolke Trayned Bandes!

I wish I'd heard and enjoyed more amateur music. There are accordion clubs in the area still. But I've been housebound since I was 22. Although on plus traditional Scottish bands that perform professionally still have a homely element about them. It feels real. And authentically played, with masses of traditional instruments on stage. Which is always nice to see. We have tickets to see Capercaillie next year, our first time since 1997. Excited.

Many thanks. Youtube video saved to watch! My Yorkshire great granddad was a drummer in the Yorkshire Light Infantry. We think he met great granny (who he never legally married) when they were in Dublin, including performing in Dublin Castle. He was also charged with desertion (brief) then/there as well. But yup, seems to have found his Irish wife while drumming in Dublin.

And yes, I fell ill newly 22, about the time I got married in 1994. Initially thought to be ME, but re diagnosed 3 years later with a life threatening autoimmune brain disease. It's been a bit of a slog. Amazingly I'm still happy though :)
